KDE Stuff

For the last few years, I have been using the K Desktop Environment as my desktop of choice. In my opinion (and that of many others), it is the best desktop available for Unix-based systems. I started using KDE back in the days of the 1.0 release, and it has been on my systems ever since.

Since about release 2.1 of KDE, I have been building it from sources, in order to get just the features and optimisations I need. This takes some time, but it is worth it in the long run, I feel.

These days, I hang out on KDE-related IRC channels, and I am now part of the KDE-FreeBSD team, helping to create and maintain the ports/packages for FreeBSD users. It's important to me that I try and build KDE from CVS on a regular basis, to help ensure that it is portable across Unix systems, not just to FreeBSD. Most KDE developers work with Linux, and they are not always aware that their code is not portable to other systems. This, of course, is not always their fault, it's just the way things are.

I'm also active on some of the KDE mailing lists, but not as much as I used to be.

I've got some screenshots of my desktop, and I've also ported a couple of KDE applications so that they work within the FreeBSD Ports system.
