Forward
Forward is an archive containing a set of
routines to allow Newsbase
to post using a variety of Mail-Forwarding addresses.
A short while ago, I was given an email address of
<tap@lspace.org> and the
mail for this is forwarded to my Demon
Internet account. The problem with configuring Newsbase to use
this address meant that I couldn't have any other users having Demon
addresses (as far as I could see).
So, I wrote a couple of short routines which would allow me to
post from user 'tap' as <tap@lspace.org>, and all other users
would post from their normal '<user@afawcett.demon.co.uk>'
addresses.
Then the fun started...
All of a sudden, I found myself needing another
mail-forwarding address at L-Space.
The routine was soon altered to allow this to post as well, but when I
got a POP3 mailbox elsewhere the routine began to get a bit silly.
So, I re-coded it all to allow any of Newsbase's users to have the
option of posting from an alternate address, and these are the latest
incarnation of the routines.
They have been tested using the Termite
transports for Newsbase, and now the
!POP/!SMTP transports as well. There's no real reason why they can't
be modified to work with other transports. Also, they are only likely
to work with version 0.56 of Newsbase onwards.
NB: These routines are provided for people with
Mail-Forwarding addresses, and are definitely NOT
intended for abuse!
Latest News! As of
version 0.57g of Newsbase, these routines have been incorporated into
the main code. You'll need version 0.28 or later of Messenger to work
properly with them, but the routines here might work with later
versions if you don't like Messenger.
